Indian cricket team has been playing some fantastic cricket in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup in England. They broke records, created history, and even shut down quite a few people who are known to make sexist comments. Mithali Raj’s exceptional captaincy to go with her team’s fabulous performance on the field have made sure that India will play the semi-finals of the coveted event.
While India is all set to take on the Southern Stars in the second semi-final in Derby on July 20, the Indian batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar has come forward and recognised the potential these women have. In his recent Facebook post, the Master Blaster praised the commitment and zeal of Jhulan Goswami – the leading wicket takers in ODIs in Women cricket.
“MEET #JhulanGoswami: Her reason for being, as long as she can remember, has been to play Cricket for India. Young Jhulan Goswami defied the odds, and family members who thought Cricket wasn’t the ideal profession for her, travelling 80 kms to train in Kolkata.” Tendulkar wrote.
The cricket icon also emphasized on Jhulan’s never give up attitude and further wrote, “She woke up daily at 4:30 am to take a local train to the city. If that’s not love, what is? Your passion for the game shines through every one of your tremendous performances, Gozzy! You are truly an inspiration. Come on, #TeamIndia! All the best, #WomenInBlue! ICC – International Cricket Council UNICEF #CricketForGood”.
In her response, Jhulan Goswami was rather speechless and was left humbled. She expressed her gratitude towards India’s cricketing God by saying that team will be motivated by the inspiring words of Sachin.
“I am extremely grateful to Sachin Tendulkar. I feel humbled to see such a compliment coming from a legend. We grew up watching him playing cricket. It will definitely motivate me and will inspire the girls ahead of the semi-finals coming up against the Aussies,” quoted Jhulan Goswami.
