Farhan Akhtar, Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, playback singer and television host is the son of Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. He made his writing and directorial debut with the film Dil Chahta Hai produced by Excel Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., a production company he established along with Ritesh Sidhwani in 1999.

In 2008, Akhtar made his acting and singing debut in a musical film titled Rock On!!, for which he wrote the dialogues and also produced.

Recently he talks about the influence of women. He said,” “It is amazing to see that. The more influence that we have of women in any field, why just films… it can be sports or politics also, it’s good for everyone because they have a different perspective on things because they have experienced life in different ways from what we (men) have; so, it makes a difference.”

Men Against Rape and Discrimination or MARD is a social campaign launched by Akhtar. The idea came to the mind of Akhtar when in August 2012, Pallavi Purkayastha, a lawyer by profession, was sexually assaulted and then killed by her home watchman.

Farhan’s latest co-production, Fukrey Returns, registered an opening day collection of Rs 8.10 crore on December 8. About the reason of doing this film, he stated,” you do a film is because you want to share it with the world and when a lot of people see your film, the most tangible recognition of it is the box office collection, because you can aggregate a number through it.”
