She’ll be sharing screen space with Jim Parsons and Claire Danes in this upcoming movie directed by Silas Howard. The movie is based on the play by Daniel Pearle.
But it seems the desi girl has hit the roadblock which leads visit to the Income Tax Department. If sources are to believe Priyanka Chopra was asked to pay up her taxes for the luxury items she received as a gift from her companies she endorsed by the IT Department.
As per sources Bajirao Mastani actress has received a Rs 40 lakh worth luxury watch from LVMH-Tag company and a luxury Sedan car from Toyota, which is worth Rs. 27 lakh. As per latest update Priyanka was gifted a watch by the manufacturing company as a promotional gift.
As per latest update I-T official were stating that VMH-Tag is a company and not an individual to have emotional bonding with a person gift an emotional gifts. She was quoted saying that “A company, is an artificial person and therefore does not have any emotional feeling of love and affection which is the cardinal factors for treating any transaction as gift. Since both these items have been treated as taxable perquisites in the hands of Chopra, under section 28(iv) of the Income-tax (I-T) Act, after a raid conducted at her office and residence in January 2011, the actress has been ordered to pay the appropriate tax amounts.”
Priyanka Chopra had approached Income-tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Department appealed to Commissioner of Appeals but the officer rejected her plea; in fact, IT department’s action has been upheld by the Commissioner (Appeals) but they also rejected the request. The reason given to them was that the actress has failed to produce any evidence of the watch being of lesser value making it taxable. IT officials are re-assessing all her claims during the time period, which also feature a necklace (worth Rs 17.60 lakhs) which was gifted to her by Red Chillies Entertainment.
On the work front, Priyanka Chopra will next be seen in Quantico 3 and Hollywood film A Kid Like Jake.
