The 65th National Film Awards was announced today by the jury which is being headed by well-known director Shekhar Kapur. Shekhar Kapur also informed that Two icons of Indian cinema – Sridevi and Vinod Khanna – have been awarded posthumously. Sridevi won her first National Award for Best Actress for the movie – MOM. Vinod Khanna, who died last year, has been announced the winner of Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest film honor.

The official announcement was good and gloomy moment for her admirers as the actor passed away earlier this year.  In the wake of this news, The Kapoor family have released an official statement thanking the jury for bestowing Sridevi with the award.

This is what Boney Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, and Khushi Kapoor had to say:-

“We are overjoyed to know that the Jury has conferred the Best Actor Award to Sridevi for her performance in ‘MOM’. It’s a very special moment for all of us.

She was always a perfectionist and it showed in all the 300 plus films she did. She was not just a Super Actor but a Super Wife and a Super Mom.

Its time to celebrate her life and her achievements. She is not with us today but her legacy will always live on.

We thank the Government of India, the Hon’ble Jury Members for this honor. We also take this opportunity to thank all our friends, her fans who have been sending us congratulatory messages.

Thank you,

The actress career spanned over 5 decades in which she has done almost 300 films in Hindi, Tamil Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.  Sridevi was asked about the constant comparisons that Janhvi will have to face after her debut and was quoted saying that

We can’t run away from that. She has to face the pressure. When she has decided to enter Bollywood, she has to go through all this. She’s prepared for all that, and I am also preparing myself for it. Sometimes, it scares me. So many thoughts come and you feel why is she doing this? But then, if you feel that is her aim and happiness, as a mother, I will support her like my mom supported me. We weren’t from a film background but it happened and she stood by me, fought for me and made sure I am happy. That’s how I would also like to be with Janhvi.”

Janhvi’s debut movie Dhadak is all set to release on July 6.
