This started when famous choreographer Saroj Khan during a news hour debate, made remarks about casting couch that were unacceptable. After that remark she faced a backlash online after making insensitive statements about casting couch in Bollywood. Not many people from the industry have responded to the unsavoury comments or have even criticised Saroj.
At the teaser launch of Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, Sanju, the film’s lead actor, Ranbir Kapoor, was asked about the casting couch. He said, “I’ve never faced it in Bollywood. But if it is happening, then it’s very bad,”
The controversy began when Saroj Khan, during a news hour debate, made remarks about casting couch that were unacceptable. She had said, “This (casting couch) has been going on since the beginning of time. It hasn’t started now. Someone or the other tries to take advantage of every other girl. The government’s people do it too. Then why are you after the film industry? It provides livelihood at least. Does not rape and leave you. It depends on the girl, what she wants to do. If you don’t want to fall in wrong hands, you won’t. If you have art, then why would you sell yourself? Don’t take film industry’s name, it is everything for us.”
Coming back to Sanju, the teaser is fetching a good response on Twitter. Fans are loving how much Ranbir resembles Sanjay Dutt, on whom the film is based. Talking about his physical transformation, Ranbir said, “It was really fast, number of days wasn’t much. I gave myself a month break between every phase. So there was a lot of team effort behind this. I think a year before that we did a lot of prep and screen tests, trying to give Raju sir the confidence that I can look muscular Sanjay Dutt. I usually have a very thin frame, it was hard for me to put on muscles. I can look like the Sanjay Dutt who comes out of the jail or the guy who was doing Munna Bhai at the same time looking like young Sanjay in Rocky. That was easy because that’s how I also look.”
